Micro Quest at TomorrowLabs-Festival in Magdeburg
At June 8th, a new science festival inaugurated in Magdeburg. It is called TomorrowLabs, and it is all about our ideas of tomorrow and how we want shape it. Divided into different parts, “tomorrow society” was where learning and education had its place. We presented the Micro Quest project and how micro-credentials can change the learning landscape in the future to about 25 interested people. The idea of small, flexible learning experiences to offer people of all ages and backgrounds new pathways into learning sounded very appealing to the audience. Some of them signed up on our list to stay informed about the topic.
Others visited our booth, where we offered more detailed information about micro credentials and the project results like the “Guideline for VET Providers” and the Micro Quest Network. In addition, we had created a quiz, where people had to answer some computer science questions and if they achieved good results, they earned their first mini “micro-credential”, stating that a future career in computer science might be suitable for them.
We talked with the visitors about the chances and opportunities of micro-credentials and asked them, what they would like to learn in a micro-credential course. It is part of creating micro-credentials to do a needs analysis before you start developing it. These discussions were a first step of a needs analysis into what courses would meet the interests of the people at the festival.
